We invited founder of Rockfish Technology, Jason Jones, to come in and present a test strategy for our multi-protocol lineports based on the Rockfish Technology Ethernet BFMs and System Verilog Testbench. We were all very impressed with his knowledge and professionalism and engaged with Rockfish to both provide the verification IP and execute the verification of our multi-protocol lineport.
Well, we couldn’t be happier with that decision. Jason came onsite and worked seamlessly with our design engineers. Even though the design code was still under active development, Jason made immediate progress turning on simulations and filing the first bug the first week.
Over the course of the project, Rockfish custom tailored the BFM protocol checkers to the designer’s implementation and thereby closed the loop – directly observing the state transitions in the design to identify mismatches between the design RTL and the IEEE specification. With this approach, functional coverage was monitored to close coverage holes. The power of this protocol modeling approach for ethernet meant that both functional equivalence and functional coverage could be assured without resorting to an unsupportable number of directed tests for the line error cases.
We were pleased that the verification of the lineport was completed well in advance of the tape-out date and other verification efforts. The thoroughness of the Rockfish Technology approach allowed for an organized convergence of the verification because once the testing hit full coverage in an area, there were no more issues in that area. The automated regression was invaluable for timing fixes later in the project and the regression was easily adapted to gate simulations.
In all, Rockfish Technology delivered the complete verification solution for our lineports. We are very pleased with the thoroughness and completeness of the verification and have no hesitation recommending Rockfish Technology.
